Admissions & Registration Steps
Admission to Kishwaukee College is based on an Open Door Policy.
Registering for classes at Kishwaukee College is easy. Just follow the below simple, step-by-step instructions.
If you are a former Kishwaukee College student that has attended within the past 2 years, your records are still in the system and you can continue to Step 2. If it has been OVER 2 years since last attending Kishwaukee College then start at Step 1.
Step 1 - Apply for Admissions
Submit the Student Information Form and official transcripts to the Admissions, Registration and Records Office (ARR).
Kishwaukee College has an open admissions policy, everyone is welcome! All new students, including dual credit and students who have been inactive for two years or more should complete the Student Information Form. You can apply online today! A downloadable PDF form is also available.
Please submit all official transcripts from high school, GED, military and/or any former colleges or universities to Admissions, Registration, & Records (ARR C2100), in order to complete the admission process. Visiting Students only need to submit unofficial transcripts if needed for prerequisite proof and Request for prerequisite evaluation form. Contact the ARR Office at ext. 2740.
Step 2 - Apply for Financial Aid
Submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid - FAFSA (at fafsa.ed.gov). The Kishwaukee College School code is 007684. Use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool, if possible, for more accuracy. Step 3 - Take Placement Test (if necessary)
Submit ACT scores to ARR (C2100), if applicable. Schedule your COMPASS Placement Test for English and math if no previous coursework has been completed in those areas. Contact Counseling & Student Development at ext. 5070 to schedule.
Step 4 - Attend New Student Orientation (NSO)
Attend NSO to learn more about getting involved, student success tips and tricks, Honors Program, Kougar Athletics, Financial Aid, and how to succeed at Kishwaukee College and beyond. You will also tour campus and win FREE giveaways! Contact Counseling & Student Development at ext. 5070 to register.
Step 5 - Schedule Academic Counseling
All first-time, full-time students are required to meet with an Academic Counselor prior to registration. Make your appointment today with Counseling & Student Development at ext. 5070.
Step 6 - Register for Classes & Pay Tuition
Register online through myKC or in person in ARR (C2100). For questions about registration, please contact ARR at ext. 2740. For payment options, go to myKC or visit the Business Office (C2140). Payments must be received prior to the tuition due date. For questions, contact the Business Office at ext. 3410.
- Purchase books and supplies at the Kishwaukee College Bookstore. The Bookstore’s website provides a complete list of the new and used books available for courses.
- Get your student ID card. Take your class schedule and another form of ID to the Library to get your student ID. This card doubles as your library card.
- Meet with a counselor/advisor every semester to determine what courses you need to take.
- Get involved! The Student Government Association (SGA) works with the Student Activities Office to offer fun events for the entire campus. SGA is a great way to get involved and meet other students, as are the more than 20 other student organizations Kishwaukee College offers.
- Go to class!
- Meet with a Counselor if you are planning to transfer to a university—the earlier, the better! Meeting with a Counselor will help you map out your educational plan and determine what courses will be able to get you into the program of your choice.
- Ask for help! Professors, tutors, and student services professionals are all here to assist you!
- Utilize the Learning Skills Center. Struggling in math? Need help writing a paper? Just need somewhere quiet to work? Stop into the Learning Skills Center, which offers free tutoring, the Writing Center, a computer lab, and quiet study rooms.
myKC: How the College Communicates
As a new student, you will need to set up your myKC portal in order to receive communications from the College. After your initial admissions letter, official communications you receive from the College are available through the portal. Within myKC, you can access KishSOS functions (registration, class schedule, grades, etc.) and your student e-mail account (email@example.com), as well as teamsites for student organizations, campus alerts, and more.
With myKC, you can:
- Confirm profile information
- Locate Financial Aid information & award letter
- Register for classes
- View class schedule
- Make payments
- Enroll in KIPP
- View grades
- And more!
To set up your account, you will need your 7-digit student ID number (found on your admissions letter, this number starts with a zero). Click on the myKC logo on the Kishwaukee College homepage and follow the tutorial to activate your account.
Have you already activated your account, but can’t find your password? The College cannot retrieve your passcode; however, you can call the Help Desk at 815-825-2086, ext. 4357 (HELP) to reset your account.
Kishwaukee College has an open door policy, which means admission is open to all in-district residents of Community College District 523 who are high school graduates or the equivalent (GED) or non-graduates who will be 18 years or older during their first semester. Admission is also open to out-of-district, out-of-state, and foreign country residents. See the Kishwaukee College Catalog for additional restrictions and guidelines.
