March 2014 Meghan Barrett
Congratulations to Meghan Barrett as the KC March Student-Athlete of the Month. The North Carolina native for the Women’s Softball team. The 5’5 sophomore pitches and plays Infield for the Kougars. She is on track to earn Arrowhead Academic All-Conference team honors. As a freshman she batted .306 and a slugging percentage of .425. The team has recently returned from their annual spring Florida tournament and anxiously awaits the warm, clear days to play on their home field. Coach Bill Becker lauds the team captain, “Meghan has stepped up and taken on a leadership role with the team. She had a very good spring semester academically and has learned the challenges of being a collegiate student-athlete, and what it takes to overcome those challenges. She is always willing to assist her teammates and has been pro-active in helping teammates.” “We are proud to have Meghan part of our program and representing so well in the classroom and working hard both on the playing field and with her studies,” adds A.D. Karen Wiley.
February 2014 Donnell Cegers
Congratulations to sophomore Donnell Cegers of the Men’s Basketball Team for being named February Student-Athlete of the Month. The 6' 5" sophomore forward is is averaging 17 ppg, 8.4 rpg, 2.3 assits/g and 1.5 steal/g. He has been named the Region IV A Player of the Week four times this season and was named NJCAA National Player of the Week for the Week of February 3. Donnell is the team’s leading score rebounder and will be nominated for both All-Conference and All-Region honors.“ Donnell was huge in many of our team wins this year but played exceptionally well in our 87-58 win over #2 nationally ranked South Suburban College with 25pts, 11rebs, 3asts, 1blk, and 1stl. Donnell is a big reason why we are 24-6 and ranked #1 in Region IV and #13 in the NJCAA Division II National rankings,” lauds Head Coach Rob Buss. Donnell is receiving interest from many NCAA DIV I & II schools and is looking to major in Civil Engineering. He will graduate in May with a A.S. degree. “I have enjoyed watching Donnell grow as a player, student and young man at KC. He has used his opportunities here and developed in every way possible. We are extremely proud of Donnell,” adds Athletic Director Karen Wiley.
January 2014 Jasmine Ogunjimi
Congratulations to Jasmine Ogunjimi the KC January Student-Athlete of the Month. The Whitney Young H.S. graduate plays for the Women’s Basketball team. The freshman 5’7 point guard is on track to earn Arrowhead Academic All-Conference team honors. As the KC starting point guard and team Co-Captain she averages 8ppg and 2 assists/g for the 13-4 Kougars who are currently ranked #9 in the NJCAA national polls. “Jasmine has maintained a high level of commitment and hard work in the classroom and in the gym in her short time already here. She represents KC with maturity and class. We are proud to have someone of Jasmine’s caliber part of our program,” adds Head Coach and A.D. Karen Wiley.
December 2013 Kaylor Zimmerman
Congratulations to sophomore Kaylor Zimmerman of the Men’s Basketball Team for being named December Student-Athlete of the Month. The captain point guard graduated from New Lutheran HS in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Kaylor earned Arrowhead All-Academic Honors as a freshman is on track to earn those honors again as a sophomore. “Kaylor is a very focused and hard- working player who has made great strides in his game as well as a leader and point guard in our program,” lauds Head Coach Rob Buss. Kaylor was also named the Region IV Player of the Week for first week in December with a triple double versus Olive Harvey, 12 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists. He is averaging 12 ppg, 8 assists/g and shooting 80% from the FT line. “Kaylor is a shining example of what hard work on the floor and in the classroom can be. He carries himself with a great deal of class and maturity, representing KC so very well,” adds Athletic Director Karen Wiley.
November 2013 Catie Cox
Congratulations to Catie Cox the KC November Student-Athlete of the Month. The Dixon H.S. graduate plays for the Women’s Basketball team. As a freshman, the 5’11 Center/Forward was named to the Arrowhead Academic All-Conference team. As the KC starting Center and team Co-Captain she averages 7ppg and 8 rebounds for the 6-2 Kougars who are currently ranked #6 in the NJCAA national polls. “Catie has led by example on the floor and in the classroom. She represents our program with class, maturity and sense of responsibility to get the job done well. I know I can count on Catie to be there for me and our team. I am proud to have a caliber of student-athlete as Catie to represent us,” lauds Head Coach and Athletic Director Karen Wiley.
October 2013 Adam Seiter
Congratulations to sophomore Adam Seiter of the Men’s Soccer Team for being named October Student-Athlete of the Month. The captain Defender graduated from Rockford Boylan. Adam earned Arrowhead All-Academic Honors as a freshman is on track to earn those honors again as a sophomore. “He is a true midfielder but has had to play out of position all season. He stepped into the role of defender and has done a great job. He is a hard-working, tireless player who has played nearly every minute of every game. He has a ‘no quit attitude’ even when the scores have been out of reach. Adam has also been a great student in the classroom and will without a doubt move on to play at the next level. He has been a pleasure to coach these past two years," lauds Head Coach Kevin Bickley. “I am proud to have Adam part of our department, representing so well on the pitch and in the classroom. His integrity, focus and desire to be the best is an example for all of us,” adds Athletic Director Karen Wiley.
September 2013 Ashley Belcher
Congratulations to Ashley Belcher the KC September Student-Athlete of the Month. The Warrensburg-Latham H.S. graduate plays for the Women’s Volleyball team. As a freshman, the 5’7” Libero was named to the Arrowhead Academic All-Conference team and a member of the National Honors Society Phi Theta Kappa. As the KC starting Libero she has maintained a 2.4 passer rating on a 3.0 scale and leads the team in digs, and is #15 in nation for digs. “Ashley has worked hard on the playing floor and also in the classroom. I am happy Ashley is such a wonderful ambassador for our VB program and KC Athletics. She has chosen KC and is proving to be successful in all he has done through quality work, dedication, and commitment to doing her best,” adds Athletic Director Karen Wiley.
