Advisory Committees

Advisory Committees

Programs that are designed to prepare students to directly enter the workforce after completion of a degree or certificate are guided by Advisory Committees. Advisory Committees are composed of local and regional professionals in a program’s field and Kishwaukee College instructors. Together, employers and educators share information, ideas, and ensure that the programs and curricula are responsive to the real world workforce experience in the field.

The Role of the Advisory Committee Member: What It's All About

Occupational advisory committees are mandated by both federal and state laws. You have been selescted as a member of an advisory committee to lend your expertise, knowledge, and experience as an advisor to public education. Individuals who are selected to serve are chosen because they have proven success in their chosen occupations. You are a valuable asset to Kishwakee Colleg ein that you will be advising the college regarding the proper preparation of students for rewarding careers of their choice.

The students, who will be the ultimate beneficiaries of your labors on the committee, will eventaully be working in the occupation or cluster of occupations you represent. The students must be able to compete in the job market, find and hold employment in their chosen fields, be able to progress on the job, and be a productive, active member of society. In order to provide a quality education for students, the college needs your advice and assistance.

What the committee will do--and the effectiveness of the process--will depend to a great extent on how well you as a member make it work. The recommendations you make, the advice you give, and the efforts you expend will all elp in prodiving an excellent learning opportunity for the student.
